Asphalt Paving & Sealcoating in Hood River, Oregon

Long farm and estate driveways out in the valley, steep in-town grades, and wind off the Gorge all put real wear on asphalt here. Porter runs a crew up I-84 on a regular basis, and every photo on this page is a real Hood River job.

This Is Our Work in Hood River

Porter has 31 GPS-verified job photos from in and around Hood River, more than any other town outside Gresham itself. That includes the downtown-area lot re-stripe in the photo above, plus the two jobs below: an estate driveway sealcoat out in the valley and a long rural driveway reseal. This isn’t a town Porter passes through on the way to somewhere else.

Orchard Valley

Long Driveways Built for Working Land

Out around Odell and Pine Grove, a driveway usually isn’t a short strip of blacktop between the street and a garage. It’s a long approach built to carry tractors, delivery trucks, and everyday traffic in and out of a working orchard or estate property, and that kind of use wears a surface differently than a typical subdivision driveway does.

Dust and grit get tracked onto the asphalt constantly, and the weight of farm and delivery equipment works the edges and seams harder than a passenger car ever would. That’s exactly the kind of driveway Porter’s asphalt paving and sealcoating crews are built for: pave or convert a long gravel approach in stages, then keep it sealed every 3–5 years so it doesn’t dry out and crack under all that traffic.

Gorge Weather

Wind, Freeze-Thaw & Steep Grades

Hood River didn’t become the Gorge’s windsurfing capital by accident. That same east wind drives grit and moisture into every seam and crack in a driveway or parking lot, and it doesn’t let up just because there’s no water nearby. Add a freeze-thaw winter and the steep grades running down toward the river, and asphalt here works harder than it does almost anywhere else Porter goes.

In town, that means steep streets and lots like the one Porter re-striped near downtown, all catching wind straight off the Gorge. Out in the valley, it’s long orchard driveways facing the same wind with none of the shelter a building provides. Different setting, same problem.

Water gets into a hairline crack, freezes, expands, and the crack gets a little wider. Left alone through a few Hood River winters, a small crack turns into a pothole. Crack filling before it spreads, and sealcoating on the normal 3–5 year schedule, is how a driveway or lot here stays ahead of the weather instead of catching up to it.

FAQ

Hood River Questions, Answered

Yes. Hood River is one of Porter’s regular stops, not a special trip. The crew runs up I-84 on a set schedule, and with 31 photographed jobs in town and the surrounding valley, it’s one of the most-worked towns on the map outside Gresham itself.

We schedule around your operation. Tell us what’s happening on the property, harvest, equipment moves, deliveries, and we’ll build the job timeline around it instead of asking you to work around us.

It does. East wind drives grit and moisture into cracks and seams, and freeze-thaw winters widen whatever’s already there. That’s why crack filling before it spreads, and sealcoating on a normal 3–5 year schedule, matter more here than in a milder part of the metro.

Recycled asphalt millings are a solid middle ground for long farm and equipment lanes: firmer and less dusty than raw gravel, at a fraction of the cost of hot-mix asphalt. See our gravel & recycled millings page for how it compares.
